Built in 1988 by Yukinobu Chai, one of Japan's most respected classical guitar luthiers of the era. Originally trained as a violin maker, Chai turned to guitar building in the early 1960s and, without ever apprenticing under another luthier, developed his own voice through close study of the great European builders — Torres, Hauser, and Santos Hernández among them. His instruments are now sought after by players and collectors for their clear, colorful trebles and warm, rounded basses.
This particular instrument is in player’s-grade condition, with several superficial marks on the soundboard from years of use! There is a superficial crack to the soundboard on one side of the bridge, which has been cleated for stability.
