Using Hendrix-era CBS single coils as our starting point, these pickups are incredibly versatile with a warm and slightly-scooped sound that lends itself to everything from Jimi Hendrix and Ian Moss through to Mark Knopfler and John Mayer.
What sets these pickups apart is that they are wound with graduated inductance, individually tailoring the pickup’s frequency response and output for each position.
Neck
In the neck position where the strings move the most, the pickup is tuned to have the lowest sensitivity, matching its effective volume with the other pickups. This pickup has the highest resonant frequency of the set, balancing the naturally bass-heavy sound of the neck position with sparkling highs.
Middle
The middle position pickup is wound for slightly higher output than the neck position, and a lower resonant frequency to balance the brighter sound of the middle position when compared to the neck. When combined with the neck pickup the sound is to die for, with a great big scoop in the mids.
Bridge
Taking inspiration from the pickups of the late-70s, the bridge position is slightly over-wound giving it more output and the lowest resonant frequency of all 3 pickups, rolling off the ice-pick frequencies while retaining all the chime and sparkle of a great Strat pickup. This pickup is great for lead work but still retains that classic Strat twang. When combined with the middle pickup you are right in Sultans of Swing territory!
